The  Assembly of chairpersons of the National Regulatory Institutions(NRIs) of the member countries is the EREA’s supreme policy and decision- making organ. It comprises all the NRI’s board chairpersons of the EAC countries. The Assembly determines and approves policies and the strategic plan  as well as adopting the annual programme of the regional organisation. The General Assembly is held once every year  but may decide to hold a special Assembly whenever requested by more than half of the members. The assembly elects the Chairperson and Deputy chairperson of the Energy Regulators Association of East Africa, approves the functions of the organisation and takes decisions key to the integration of EAC energy market.
